Learn Basic and Advanced Roulette Strategies
Reduce the House Advantage to Win Cash
Roulette is one of the oldest table games and easiest to learn for new players. Yet, when you take the time to study and learn the game, you can use basic and advanced strategies to win lots of cash.
Whether you are playing European roulette, American roulette or another popular version, some basic strategies can help you turn a lucky streak into a financial windfall. As you likely know, each wheel has 36 numbers alternately colored red or black. There also is one green space at 0, plus another at 00 when playing the American version.
Basic strategy generally focuses on wagers that are close to even money — betting on red or black, odd or even, or high or low numbers. These wagers leave a low house advantage of about 5.26 percent in American roulette and 2.7 percent in European roulette.
Whenever possible, you should try to play European roulette, due to the lower house advantage. Regardless which version of the game you play, basic strategy dictates you try to ride your winning streaks to win lots of cash.
The most basic strategy is to lay a wager that pays back 1:1. Those are the red or black, odd or even, or high or low numbers wagers.
When you win your bet, you double the amount on the next wager and continue doubling the amount until you finally lose. That strategy is called the Paroli system, and can put a lot of cash in your pocket when you ride a winning streak.
A similar basic strategy is to double your bet when you lose, and continue until you win and get your money back. That strategy, called the Martingale system, though, could lead to a large loss, if you hit a very unlucky streak.
The Paroli and Martingale systems are two of the more popular basic strategies.
An example of more advanced strategy is the Dozens and Columns system. That strategy requires you to lay wagers on one of the three columns or sets of dozens of numbers on the betting table. If one of them hit, you get a larger payout of 2:1 due to the odds provided by the casino.
That makes it easier to triple your money. It also leaves the possibility of laying the same wager amount on two columns, so that you could double your money if a number in one of your two chosen columns hits.
The important thing to remember is to use a strategy and stick with it. Otherwise, you could find yourself laying different wagers at different times and wind up losing a lot of cash.
